Ubuntu 9.04 on a EEE900

by nevermore on Apr.23, 2009, under work

Hey there,

Just installed Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty on my EEE900 and wow.  It loads hella quick, shuts down hella quick, and all my hardware seems to be working flawless.

I did have some issues trying to get compiz fusion to work right.  Didnt realize that compiz comes pre-installed with 9.04 so once i figured that out i tried to switch from the metacity windows manager to compiz by doing the following after opening a terminal window:

compiz --replace

Unfortunately, this did the typical compiz thing of removing all of my window decorations.  I rebooted the computer and went looking for the compiz setting manager under System > Preferences and for some strange reason…its not there!

I found that even though compiz is installed, the settings manager is not.  Again i opened a terminal window and did the following:

sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

just to make sure i had the latest ang greatest.  Then:

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

this installed the settings manager.

And then as expected i was able to find it under preferences.

Overall its a little laggy when you have the cube turned on, but the wall and expo features look really cool.

Jaunty seems to be kick ass so far.  Guess we’ll see how long till 9.10 comes out lol.
